Static Kitchen
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
Late-night customers. Strange ingredients. One kitchen appliance nobody understands.
STATIC KITCHEN is a tactile first-person cooking game about learning recipes, reading customers, improvising with whatever ingredients are available, and experimenting with a kitchen appliance that probably should not exist.
Chop. Sizzle. Season. Serve. Learn who comes back tomorrow.
It's 1 AM. Rain on the window, a radio playing to nobody, a neon OPEN sign buzzing. You run the kitchen alone. Customers come to the window and tell you what they want - sometimes.
Cook with your hands. Grab a Red Root from the fridge, chop it on the board, light a burner, oil the pan, hear it SIZZLE, flip it before the bottom burns, tip it onto a plate, put it on the pass - DING. Pour sauces, stir pots, season, squeeze a lime, crack a Moon Egg.
Improvise. Every night the stock changes. The supplier shorts you, a crate of something rare arrives, the left burner runs hot, the lights stutter. Swap ingredients, invent dishes, find combinations nobody taught you.
Features
- 16 ingredients that each behave differently: cut states, browning, crisping, burning, melting, wilting
- Real-time cooking - food keeps cooking while you chop the next thing; flipping matters
- Two burners and an oven (from the Rush night) that bakes while you work the pans; two hands to carry with
- 29 things to buy for the kitchen between nights - a sharper knife, a dishwasher, a deep fryer, a wok burner, a rice cooker, a juicer, a record player, a heater for the people waiting in the rain...
- 30 recipes to discover (six need something from the shop), 12 hidden combinations, and dishes you invent and name yourself
- 12 recurring customers with partly hidden tastes and memories of what you served them, and eight people off the street who drop in once you have regulars
- The dishes come back dirty: wash up at closing, or buy a countertop dishwasher and watch it go
- A 10-night campaign with seven endings, a weird appliance, and a mystery you can ignore entirely
- Endless Night, a shareable Daily Night code, and a no-pressure Sandbox Kitchen
- A rainy street outside the window that lives through the season - and a kitchen that collects the traces of it
- Original late-night radio music; no real cooking advice - just smoke, the odd pan fire (there's an extinguisher) and opinions
Controls
WASD walk - mouse look - left click: the action on screen (hold to chop / pour / shake) - right click: flip the pan / throw - mouse wheel: knobs and dials - E: swap hands - Tab: notebook - Esc: pause. Every control but Esc can be rebound (Settings -> Controls). Options for a cook gauge that shows doneness by shape instead of colour, reduced flashing, and click-to-start instead of holding. Graphics Low / Medium / High (integrated graphics start on Low: about 60 fps at 1080p on an Intel UHD 770).
